Paying your card is treated as a transfer. :) Oh, and do not underestimate the power of Goals, they rock!

YNAB VS YNAB 4 TRIAL

Tl dr The learning curve is fairly easy, give the free trial a spin, read through the transition guide, and ask some more questions here. But if you had told me that I'd feel this way 5 months ago, I would have scoffed at you and said "NO IT SHOULD BE PAY ONCE FOREVER." I'm still more in favour of "pay once and have forever" in general, but given that updates come out multiple times a week, it feels better to me to support the team on a subscription-based model. Also, in this particular instance I feel good about supporting the developers once a year, a little bit at a time. Which, actually, was a pretty cool revelation, to treat this budgeting as a monthly funded goal to be paid every month just like my other annual memberships. Now, honestly, I would budget approx $10 a month for it.

YNAB VS YNAB 4 FOR FREE

Is it work the subscription fee? I was pretty anti-subscription, and then I realized that as a student I can use it for free for a full year with a discount next year, so I jumped on it. I recommend doing a free trial - head over to the promo chain thread and take your pick to help a fellow YNABer out. But honestly it's a pretty small learning curve compared to what is involved with first starting up with YNAB, the four rules, how the budget works, etc. When I watched the credit card workshop I was still on YNAB4 and I didn't realize that the two programs handled things differently. The learning curve for how credit card payments work took a couple of resources to get through. Similar to the colours, I like being able to see things at a glance rather than having to do a couple extra clicks and trying to remember in between. My biggest complaint is that I liked being able to see 3 months of budgeting at a time in YNAB4. It helps to budget forward, instead of using it as a postmortem to spending that was already done. Now I can't imagine NOT using them, it takes a lot of internal work out of my head and gives it to the software, making it easier for me to actually budget.

  • Use of colours to help see at a glance if a category is funded or underfundedīefore I switched, the goals seemed like a neat little extra.
  • No longer being able to budget 3 months at a time.
  • Future transactions no longer being included in To Be Budgeted.
  • Whether one is "better" than the other will depend on personal preference and your willingness to learn the new stuff. There are some differences, I found it quite easy to switch from YNAB4 to nYNAB.
